  2. By Mail.  You can register to vote by mail up until 20 days before Election Day.
  3. Clerk's Office.  You can register in person in the Clerk's Office any time Monday through Friday 8:00am to Noon and 1:00pm to 5:00pm EXCEPT on Election Day and the Monday before Election Day.
  4. Election Day at your polling place. You can register on Election Day at your polling place.  You must provide proof of residence when you register. Click here for acceptable proofs of residence. Proof of residency can be provided in paper or electronically (via tablet, smartphone, laptop, etc.)

Absentee Voting

There are several options for requesting an absentee ballot and casting your vote.

  1. Request and absentee ballot by mail.  If you are a registered voter in the State of Wisconsin you can download the application for an absentee ballot.  Complete the form and mail it to the Clerk's Office at N12070 Fire Barn Road, Tripoli, WI 54564.  Your application must be received no later than 5 PM on the Thursday before the election in order for an absentee ballot to be sent to you.  If you are not already registered, you will need to register to vote before an absentee ballot can be sent to you.  You will also need to provide a copy of your acceptable photo ID with your request.  If you have not previously provided a copy of photo ID, photo ID must accompany your first application by mail.  More information about photo ID can be found at www.bringit.wi.gov.
  2. Request an absentee ballot by e-mail or fax.  Regular Wisconsin voters may also request that a ballot be sent to them by sending an e-mail (clerk@tn.somo.wi.gov). This request must be made not later than 5 PM on the Thursday before election in order for an absentee ballot to be sent to you.  If you have not previously provided a copy of photo ID, photo ID must accompany your application.  More information about the photo ID requirement at www.bringit.wi.gov
  3. In-person at the Clerk's Office (Early Voting).  In-person absentee voting (also known as early voting) runs for two weeks before an election, ending at 5 PM or the close of business (whichever is later) on the Friday before the election.  If you apply for an absentee ballot in the Town Clerk's Office, you must vote immediately, seal your ballot in the proper envelope, and return it to a member of the Clerk's staff.  No ballots may be taken from the Clerk's Office.

Election Officials

The Town of Somo is always looking for citizens to work at the polls during elections.  Election officials (poll workers) register new voters, give credit in the poll books for who votes, answer questions, hand out and explain ballots, and work with ballot counting equipment.  The Polls are open from 7 AM - 8 PM.  A full day for most workers lasts from approximately 6 AM - 10 PM. If you are interested in working at the pols or if you have questions, please call the Clerk's Office at 715-453-4662.
